I already did a small raid during the week in a small path, but this time the trip was more complete and absorbing. The Chiaksan National Park (치악산국립공원) is officially recognised since 1984 and it takes up 181.63 km² in the north-midwest part of South Korea in Gangwang (강원) pronvice. You can reach the park from Wonju (원주), the biggest city of the province. The highest peak is Birobong (비로봉), destination of our trip, high 1288m.

After getting to the main gate (free entrance), we reached the beginning of the path. The first 2 km were easy, with the river on a side. But the surprise came soon after that: the real climb starts with stairs, rocks, ropes, mud and ice from 550m to 1288m. I wasn't completely psychologically ready to thatkind of ascent, but let's say that there were no big difficulties. The surprise instead was to ascertain that everybody did it to the top, even if with different times (from about 3 to 5 hours). The landscape from the peak is very interesting, you can see Wonju city and many other mountains and valleys. The descent in a parallel path is also quite difficult, mainly because of the ice, but we could go back to the parking area from 2 to 3 hours later.
