Home South Korea Interviews Sebastian Rieche

PoorBest

Sebastian is on the the two students from Germany: he is quite young even if he's really tall, maybe it's because he eats a lot of chocolate. Anyway he's studying really hard at KBC, and he improved a lot since the beginning. He is very hell-bent on finding a way to becoming a professional player, and I'm sure he will do his best.

Leonardo: What about you and your life besides go?
Sebastian: I'm Sebastian Rieche from Lingen, Nieder-Sachsen in Germany. I study Chinese and philosophy at the University. I also studied Japanese to possibly go to Japan to study go. I like to travel and try different kind of food around the world. I also like to write novel, I'm actually working on my first one.

Leonardo: How did you start to play go and how is your go life?
Sebastian: Hikaru no go introduced me to this game, a friend of mine gave me a DVD with some episodes 3 years ago. There was nobody playing in my town, so I started to play on KGS. I played only on the Internet for 1 year and then I went to my first tournament as 1dan and I won only my first game. At that time I was playing just for fun, but then at that tournament when I played my first game with a real board and the stone and when I got the chance to play a game with a 2 dan professional player I decided to study more seriously. At the moment I especially want to play more games and then play also on CyberOro. My rank before coming here was 2d.

Leonardo: Tell me about your adventure at KBC and in South Korea
Sebastian: I got the news about KBC by mail and I decided instantly to come here. Talking about the school, I like almost everything, maybe except the fact that the schedule is not respected sometimes. I'd like also to play more games, and more of everything, because I want to improve. This school is especially for people that want to study and train a lot, but there's not a lot of fun and party, so if you also look at that I suggest to go to another school in Seoul. Korea is very nice and the people are very friendly.

Leonardo: Plans for the future
Sebastian: I'd like to become a professional and I really would like to stay here at KBC. I think I can make it in 3 years. I'd like to become pro because I'd like to become very strong and because I'd like to live with go in my life. My weak points probably now are reading and shapes, so this is my first goal. My goal also would be to play again with the professional I played with at my first tournament and win an even game, and then improve more of course.
