Horyuji Temple in Ikaruga
When you visit a UNESCO world heritage site (the first one in Japan in 1993), you should expect something excellent: the Horyuji Temple (法隆寺) won't disappoint you. It's situated near the Ikaruga city (斑鳩町) in Nara prefecture (奈良県), at about 35km east from Osaka downtown.
There should be too many things to say about this site, but maybe the best way to understand his beauty is visiting it. The actual temple is divided in two areas, the western Sai-in (西院) and the eastern Tō-in (東院). The first one contains Kondo (金堂, Golden Hall) and the temple's five-story pagoda, while the second hosts the octagonal Yumedono Hall (夢殿, Hall of Dreams). The complex also contains monk's quarters, lecture halls, libraries, and dining halls.
With a separate ticket you can enter at the Chuguji Temple to see (a copy of) Miroku Bosatsu (or divine savior whose mission is to relieve people's suffering), wooden statue probably made by an immigrant korean artisan in the 6th century: with its right leg resting on the left knee and the right hand raised to the cheek, Mirokubosatsu has a noble figure with a delicate but beautiful smile.
